Political Officer

Are You our new Political Officer dedicated to #working for Denmark?

If the answer is ‘yes!’ you might be our new colleague! The Political, Economic and Communications Team at the Embassy of Denmark in Jakarta is looking for a pro-active Indonesian Political Officer, who wants to play an essential role in strengthening and promoting political cooperation between Indonesia and Denmark.
The Embassy’s Political, Economic and Communications Team is managed by the Deputy Head of Mission and consists of the Political and Economic Advisor, the Development Advisor, the Political Officer, and a Danish Political and Communications intern.

Your role:
The Political Officer reports to the Deputy Head of Mission and is assisting in implementing the Embassy’s Good Governance projects; political networking and reporting; assisting in economic sectors and education; as well as assisting in the implementation of an ambitious communication strategy by producing articles and social media updates to both Danish and Indonesian audiences.

Assignments will include (but are not limited to):

  • Preparation of reports on Indonesian foreign and domestic politics, ASEAN cooperation and other political relevant topics.
  • Assisting in finalising the Embassy’s Good Governance Programme and continuing the Embassy’s activities and cooperation related to areas such as anti-corruption, human rights and tolerance.
  • Helping cultivate the Embassy’s network of Indonesian partners in various areas, and monitor events and media relevant to the Embassy’s core sectors.
  • Assisting with tasks related to various economic sectors and education, including maintaining contact with Indonesian Universities and think tanks.
  • Tasks related to public diplomacy events, presswork and media handling, including social media.

Your competences:
The Political Officer should have rich knowledge about political processes in Indonesia, Indonesian foreign policy, ASEAN, and other related issues such as human rights, defence, security and education sectors. Fluency in English (oral and written) is a must. Networking skills are crucial. Experience from other embassies or international organisations is a plus but not a must.

What we offer:
The Embassy is offering a one year contract with possible extension. The salary will consist of a base salary, allowance reflecting the candidate’s level of qualifications and functions, in addition to a possible performance based bonus. We would like you to start as soon as possible and preferably no later than mid January 2019.

The Embassy of Denmark offers an informal and flexible working environment – we want to have fun every day, but we are also ambitious with a clear goal of delivering results and boosting Denmark’s relationship with Indonesia. Our team consists of a combination of posted staff and local colleagues – and we have an excellent gender balance.

What you need to do:
Send an application in English containing cover letter, photo, CV, copy of diploma(s) and recommendations as a single PDF-file at the latest on 5 December 2018 by e-mail to: jktambvacancy@um.dk. Please write “Political Officer” in the subject.

Kindly note that only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Short-listed candidates will be invited for a job interview and will be exposed to an analytical skills test in English.
